The development of community assets is most successful when considered in concert with the needs and desires of the neighborhoods they serve. When approached cooperatively, neighborhoods can define their own priorities and dedicate their own energies to efficiently produce results. This is why I will seek community consensus on both the benefits and potential negative impacts of major developments when considering zoning change and variance requests. This is also why I will sponsor the creation of a community development matching fund program that will provide financial resources and expertise to our citizens that come together with their neighbors donating their time and effort to improving, maintaining and developing our parks and other public areas building relationships along with ball-fields and playgrounds.

The citizens of Mt. Lebanon have not been immune to the trials and tribulations of these turbulent economic times. Many have lost jobs, many more are in danger of losing their homes and most have lost significant portions of their savings, which will take time and effort to replenish. In addition to the devastating personal impact of a foreclosure on families and futures, these events reduce the value and equity in every property of every member of the affected neighborhood. Under these difficult circumstances, it is unneighborly and morally suspect to increase the financial burden on our families by raising taxes. As a Commissioner, I will work across the isle and solicit public input to set fiscal priorities supporting, enhancing and developing programs that efficiently and effectively deliver services to our community while critically re-evaluating programs that are ineffective and cutting those that cannot be fixed or that drive neighbors apart. As a strong, creative and progressive community, we must consider the ideas and value the contributions of each and every member. This is a time for effective governance, not angry partisanship.
